Bring me you
blind, armless, lame and sick.
I will heal them and with a little loving care give them
a new lease of life .
Here are some examples of what can be achieved.
|
....................................................................................................................................................................................
When I was a baby my father served in the British army, posted
to Germany at the end of the war. He bought back a teddy bear for me which he
got in exchange for some of his rations, I now know it was a Steiff. When I was
about 16 I got home one day to find the dog had got into my room and chewed my
bear. Mum had put it in the garbage, which had been collected. It took me a long
time to forgive her, I never forgave the dog.
This is probably why I love restoring old
mohair bears, send them in any
condition, I will do my very best. You'd be amazed what a holiday in the English
countryside can do for your old ted.
Please note that I specialise in
old and antique jointed bears. I do not repair acrylic, foam filled, sheepskin
or real fur bears.

1909 Steiff
Big Ted had large holes on his
muzzle, his paws were all damaged, his growl broken and his stuffing had
collapsed. I covered the old paws, patched the holes and repaired
the bellows growl mechanism. Then replaced the portion of stuffing which
had turned to sawdust. With a surface clean and a new nose he looks great
for his age.

Pedigree bear.
Ted got a little grubby and
floppy. He just needed a good clean and some new paws to make him feel
good again.

Little Brown Steiff Bear
This little teddy
was savaged by the family dog. His arm and ear torn, body punctured. He
had the holes in his body and ear patched, his arm stitched up and the
filling replaced.

1960's Steiff Zotty bear
Katie bear arrived minus
the front of her head, with damaged foot pads and
broken growl.
I dyed felt and mohair to match
the original colours before giving her a new muzzle and replacing the torn
foot pads. Finally she got a new growl and let us know how pleased
she was.

Fred bear
Fred arrived in shreds, a forlorn old ted. He was cleaned up
and the remaining body parts hand stitched onto a new backing. He got new 'antiqued' paws, invisible darning on
worn parts of his limbs, and was put back together.

Modern Steiff
Teddy
Cyril needed a
good clean. He had his legs and toes patched. All of his limbs were
tearing at the joints, so they were patched up and the joints replaced.

| Each repair is very different
and it would be impossible
to quote firmly before seeing the damaged bear. The cost of a repair can be roughly
estimated if you send a
photograph, by post or e.mail, together with a description of the repairs you would like carried
out. When you post the
bear please insure the parcel, special delivery is good in the U.K. I will
ask you to include the cost of return postage, then if you decide not to go
ahead or I consider the bear too weak to repair, I can return it
immediately. I contact you before going ahead if the cost of
repair is not near the rough estimate once I have seen the bear .
When the repair is completed I send a picture and
final bill. The bear is returned once
payment is cleared. If a repair is not paid for within 30 days the bear
will be forfeit and sold to recoup costs.
Should your bear require an extensive restoration taking a long time, I will update you mid-process to set your mind at rest. I
know how much your old bear means to you and will handle it with the love
and care it deserves.

If you are in the U.S.A here are the web addresses of a few
American repairers who may be able to help. |

I have taken these from bear
publications, I have no personal knowledge of their work.
Please check out their web sites
to satisfy yourself before sending any repairs. |
